FAQ

Is Cassava a superfood?

Cassava root is popular in most of the world outside Europe, North America, and Australia. Cassava is naturally free from gluten and is popular with people allergic to nuts, coconut, grains, and those following a low or gluten-free diet. Shredded cassava (Tapioca Flour) is virtually tasteless and odourless but is used to achieve a spongy, light and fluffy texture in baked goods or to make crispy pie crusts and pizzas. Cassava has high carbohydrate content as well as potassium, vitamin C and other trace elements.

Is Cassava safe?

Numerous fruits and vegetables contain small amounts of natural toxins, which help protect the plants and create resistance to diseases and certain types of insects. Asparagus, bamboo shoots, potatoes, kidney beans, and other common vegetables fall into this category. Raw frozen cassava contains cyanide and must be processed before consumption. Cassava is boiled for a few minutes or soaked for a few hours to remove these toxins. Cassava is a staple food for billions of people around the world.

Do you sell wholesale?

Yes. We supply restaurants, catering services, and small supermarkets. Our wholesale customers are located in Brisbane, Coffs harbour, and Sydney. For wholesale orders please use the contact form below on this website.

Why is stock limited?

Mike and the team grow a limited quantity of premium frozen cassava each year. We choose to be small. We are not a large industrial farm where few staff operating heavy machinery. Planting and harvesting cassava is a community event where friends, family, and some casual staff work together. Each cassava plant is grown carefully to ensure best flavour and texture. We aim to sell out each year, so our produce is always fresh. Our regular customers anticipate harvest each year and pre-purchase to avoid missing out.

Are you Certified Organic?

Our cassava is not certified organic. We do use regenerative agriculture practices, which improve the soil and biodiversity. Our farm is located on the NSW Coffs Coast, a region known for its clean environment, where mountains and forests meet the beach.

Do Supermarkets Sell Cassava?

Major supermarkets in Australia do not stock frozen cassava. Some convenience stores and small supermarkets do stock frozen cassava. Cassava at these retailers is usually sourced from southeast Asia or the pacific islands. Quality is low because the product has been frozen for long periods and transported long distance. For example, imported cassava may be cracked due to freezer burn or have weak flavour. Overseas farm practices are unknown and imported cassava may have been grown with chemicals or other non-organic methods. Imported cassava is also unavailable at different times of the year due to production shortages. Cassava by Farmer Mike is grown locally and delivered soon after harvest to achieve the best flavour and texture.

Do I need to be home to accept my order?

No need! We deliver to most customers when they are out and about. We know you are busy!
Please make sure you leave detailed delivery instructions and nominate a safe place for us to leave your order. If no delivery instructions are left we’ll leave it by the front door, or for apartments under the buzzer (unless they can get access to the lobby).
Your order is packed in insulated boxes with a large icepack which keeps things very cold for quite a few hours.
Note: Farmer Mike is not responsible for stolen deliveries or deliveries which have been left unattended for an extended period of time. Please nominate a safe location to leave your order in the delivery instructions.

How do you keep my order frozen?

Our produce is harvested and then snap-frozen on the farm. After receiving your order, we send your package to the courier depot in Coffs Harbour, to be sent to your address. Your order will stay frozen up to 72 hours, which allows us to use traditional (non-refrigerated) couriers for long-haul transport and last mile (local) delivery to your door.

Can I pick up my order?

Yes. You can pickup your order from our warehouse in Urunga NSW. Please select this option in the website checkout page.

What should I write for delivery instructions?

Delivery instructions are very important and can help the driver identify your home from your neighbours and is the only place where you can nominate where the driver should leave your order or provide information to the driver.
We strongly encourage detailed delivery instructions on every order as this will lead to a smoother delivery experience. Some suggestions on what to write in your delivery instructions:
• How to buzz your apartment
• Gate codes
• How to find the right apartment block if in a large complex
• Building or house colour
• Where to find the house number
• A safe place for the driver to leave the order – this must be accessible even if they can’t get in touch with you.
• Instructions on how to navigate a difficult or tight driveway
Please note that delivery instructions are only read by the driver as they deliver your order. If you need to get in touch before your delivery is made, please contact Farmer Mike via the website contact form.

What are your delivery standards?

Our delivery drivers are there to ensure your order arrives safely at your door stress-free.

Our expectations for your delivery are:
• For your driver to knock/buzz on arrival.
• Follow your delivery instructions where possible unless they can provide a good reason or if it conflicts with the list below.
• Apartments – They will leave the order safely in the lobby if they can get access. We cannot guarantee they will be able to deliver to your door due to parking and time constraints.
• Apartments – If the driver cannot get access to the lobby they will leave the order under the buzzers.
What our drivers can’t do:
• Call on approach or arrival. Our drivers are not allowed to touch their devices whilst driving and are not provided with work phones. Please use the tracking link that we email to you.
• Enter your home, go around to the back of a property, enter the garage or unpack your order. All orders must be delivered to the front of a home.
• Drop orders over fences where they can’t reach the ground.
• Enter a property where there is a loose dog.
• Drive down narrow, steep, dimly lit, or unpaved driveways. They may also not drive down driveways where it isn’t clear if they can safely turn around at the end. Please make a note of this in your delivery instructions if needed.
Receiving your order:
